In book #7, chapter 1 ("Be My Ghost"), Professor Plum ends up the guest who meets the ghost of Mr. Boddy's ancestor. The ghost tells him exactly where the hidden treasure is, and adds in a bunch of juicy family secrets. Unfortunately, Plum's fear makes him even more forgetful than usual. When the other guests find him in the morning, he's forgotten everything the ghost said and just mumbles about how he saw it. Book #14, chapter 3 ("Bowling For Dollars") has the guests go bowling in the Hall. They're deducted points every time they cheat or display bad sportsmanship. When you must allow readers to discover an undisguised clue, immediately distract them afterwards by switching to an action scene. You’d be surprised at how effective this is at getting readers to forget all about the important clue until it comes up again at the end. Fake Charity: In book #3, chapter 10 ("The Late Mr. Boddy"), the guests are sitting around discussing various crimes they've committed against their host; Miss Scarlet talks about having conned him into giving to a phony charity that was raising funds to develop a cure for a rare disease that turned its victims bright red. Colonel Michael Mustard - (Age 61) After a mediocre military career in England, he served with some distinction in Africa. Now penniless and hounded by creditors, he's struggling to pen his memoirs. What dark secret from his past is haunting him?The weapon icons are typically made of unfinished pewter (except the rope, which may be plastic or string); special editions have included gold plated, brass finished and sterling silver versions. The early lead pipings (lead pipes) were made out of actual lead and therefore posed a risk of lead poisoning. [ citation needed] In August 2008, Hasbro redesigned and updated the board, characters, weapons, and rooms. Changes to the rules of game play were made, some to accommodate the new features.

Set in fictional Hampshire Village, this new addition to the CLUE game line engages players in 50 CLUE mysteries to solve. Each mystery equals a game and unveils another chapter in the CLUE story leading up to the death of Miles Meadow-Brook. The game consists of a board which shows the rooms, corridors and secret-passages of an English country house called Tudor Mansion (named Tudor Close, Tudor Hall, Arlington Grange, Boddy Manor or Boddy Mansion in some editions) in Hampshire, England, in 1926. The game box also includes several coloured playing pieces to represent characters, miniature murder weapon props, two six-sided dice, three sets of cards (describing the aforementioned rooms, characters or weapons), Solution Cards and an envelope (or a mirror in some editions) to contain one card from each set of cards, and a Detective's Notes pad on which are printed lists of rooms, weapons and characters, so players can keep detailed notes during the game. The North American versions of Clue also replace the character "Reverend Green" from the original Cluedo with "Mr. Green". This is the only region to continue to make such a change. Minor changes include "Miss Scarlett" with her name being spelt with one 't', the spanner being called a wrench, and the dagger renamed a knife. In the 2016 U.S. edition, the knife was changed to a dagger. Until 2003, the lead piping was known as the lead pipe only in the North American edition. In book #3, chapter 6 ("A Very Important Poison"), one guest uses Professor Plum's new poison to try and kill some other guests, dipping a set of darts into the jar and then blowing them out at their targets through the Lead Pipe. They hit Mr. Boddy instead. Thankfully, it turns out Plum had forgotten the truth — it wasn't poison, like he told the guests, but a sleeping potion. Consequently, Plum — who'd taken a sip earlier when he was trying to remember what it was — and Mr. Boddy awaken a few hours later.

The accepted origin of the term “red herring,” comes from long-ago English fox hunters who trained their hounds by dragging a fish several times across the trail. When the dog learned to ignore the scent of the fish and keep to the fox’s trail, he was ready. This edition emphasizes Mr. Green as Reverend the most of all American editions. Oddly, he is not referred to as Reverend in Clue FX or the Clue DVD Game (chronologically, both sequels to Clue Mysteries). However, the biography for the 2002 edition of Clue explains that Mr. Green is a reverend and his character space is Rev. Green. The detective will remain diligently observant through the course of the book, reporting anything noticed, deduced, or suspected to the reader. In most cases, the sleuth will be trying to determine who had the means, motive, and opportunity to commit the crime.
